Kingston café could start playing music as well as supplying alcohol and late night refreshments

A café in Kingston has submitted a licensing application with the hope to play recorded music and supply alcohol and late night refreshments.
The Secret Garden, which is located in the basement of the former John Bunyan Church on Queen Elizabeth Road and basement of Clout boxing gym, hopes to play recorded music from 11pm – 12.30am on Fridays and Saturdays.
It also hopes to provide late night refreshments during these same times and to supply alcohol from 12pm – 10.30pm Sundays to Thursdays and until 12.30am on Fridays and Saturdays.
The Secret Garden is open from 6.30am – 11.30pm Sunday – Thursdays and until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.
In a licensing application document, the applicant, Daniel MacLaren, said: "The Secret Garden is a coffee shop and cafe bar occupying a small, secluded garden area at basement level and the basement below Clout Gym but benefiting from a separate entrance on Queen Elizabeth Road in Kingston upon Thames.
"There will be capacity for approximately 60 visitors. Regulated entertainment will occur in the basement. The building was formerly a church".
To prevent crime and disorder connected with the proposed premises licenses, The Secret Garden says it will install and maintain a "comprehensive CCTV system.
Local residents have until 17 September to submit a representation for this application.
Representations can be submitted here.
