An actor who lives in Kingston and starred in Peaky Blinders has admitted to speeding in one of the capital's 20mph zones.

Joe Cole, known for his role as John Shelby in the hit drama series, appeared in court documents in which he is alleged to have been behind the wheel of a BMW 1 series when it was seen doing 24mph near Wandsworth Common on 28 May.

The 37-year-old, who also appeared in Black Mirror and Gangs Of London, pleaded guilty to the offence last week by the single justice procedure.

Admitting the offence, the Kingston-based actor wrote: "I am an actor and have been abroad for the last few months.

"I have not received relevant documentation for me to pay the fine for this offence."

Within the court documents, Cole indicated he does not wish to attend court.

The case is expected to be handed to a magistrate to determine what penalty will be imposed in private.
