Kingston among top 10 London boroughs for mobile phone offences while driving

New data has revealed that Kingston upon Thames is ranked sixth of all boroughs in London for having the highest mobile phone-related driving offences.
The figures were analysed by Accident Claims Advice from a Freedom of Information request to the Metropolitan Police, and they reveal that 436 drivers in Kingston were caught using their phones while driving from April 2023 to March 2025.
The borough had 247 offences in 2023/24 and 189 in 2024/35, showing a slight drop but with the figure remaining high.
Westminster tops the capital with 670 offences, followed by Lewisham with 518.
Barnet, Southwark, and Ealing also have higher offences than Kingston.
"The number of mobile phone driving offences is extremely worrying," Accident Claims Advice solicitor Michael Higgins said.
"A road traffic accident caused by someone looking at their phone while driving could turn a person's life upside down in a split second.
"It's important that they know that legal support is available to them if they want to seek compensation for the harm they suffered."
The data showed that Westminster's Victoria Embankment was the most common road for offences, with 57 reports, and Kingston's Malden Road was the 10th most prolific road for such crimes.
More than 10,000 offences were reported across Greater London, with 9,487 additional captured by cameras and public submission.
