Improvements proposed for Kingston Cycle Hub
By Tilly O'Brien 27th May 2026
A planning application is to be submitted to improve the cycle hub in the heart of Kingston Town, to make better use of it as a community space for residents and visitors to the borough.
Opened in 2021, and funded by Transport for London (TfL) and the Mayor of London, Kingston's Cycle Hub was created to support active travel as part of the daily commute and enhance existing cycling provision in the borough.
Reacting to changes in commuter habits and instances of antisocial behaviour in the building, the council says it "will be submitting a planning application which, if approved, would bring new life to the building".
The ground floor, currently occupied by Kingston Hive, would remain a community space, while a number of changes are proposed for the rest of the building.
The first floor would be transformed into a secure, subscription based cycle storage facility, in partnership with a leading secure cycle storage provider, with a network across London.
This facility will benefit those who like a little more peace of mind when parking their bike while at work, visiting the borough or popping to the shops.
The top floor would be completely repurposed to host a unique recreation and wellbeing facility, delivered by a not-for-profit operator.
If the planning application is approved, these changes would improve the building's use as a valuable community asset, provide the option for secure cycle storage and a new community wellbeing offer for the area.
