AN ICONIC 1980s band will be playing an intimate gig in Kingston upon Thames this September, it was announced today.

Pop-rock duo Tears For Fears, who recently released their comeback album The Tipping Point, will play two sets at Kingston club Pryzm on Sunday 18 September.

The band released a number of hit singles in the 1980s including two US no.1s - 'Everybody Wants To Rule The World' and 'Shout' - and three chart-topping albums.

The Tipping Point, their seventh album, was released on February 25 to 'universal acclaim' according to Metacritic.

Today, event organisers Banquet Records announced the gig as a "step away from arenas" for the band who are due to play concerts in London, Cardiff and Newcastle this summer to support the album.

Instead, they will be giving "a rare intimate performance in Kingston" in the club on Clarence Street.

It comes as other big-name acts are set to take the stage at Pryzm, which has become Banquet Records' go-to venue for gigs since the closure of the Hippodrome club in 2018.

Legends of the 1980s, Bryan Adams, Johnny Marr and Duran Duran will all be performing at the venue in the next few months - while more recent indie names Rex Orange County, Blossoms and alt-j have concerts lined up.

Tickets for the two Tears for Fears gigs will go on sale tomorrow (2 March) from 11am and 12pm - as will the extra show for Bryan Adams, on sale from 11am.
