A North Kingston pub has been listed for sale by real estate agents Savills, but landlord Rick Robinson says business will continue as usual.
Mr Robinson told Nub News locals and regulars alike have expressed concern after seeing The Willoughby Arms listed online on Rightmove by Savills.
However, while the Victorian building's freehold is on the market for offers in excess of £1,430,000, any new owners will have to uphold Mr Robinson's lease, which isn't set to expire until October 2037.
The pub landlord says he feels 'neutral' about the sale by current owners Tavern Propco.
"I'm not getting excited, I'm not getting depressed. It's out of my control [...] there's no point losing sleep over it," he says.
Mr Robinson first took over The Willoughby Arms in 1994, advocating for the pub's transition to a freehouse to then-owners Enterprise Inns.
He seems unphased by the news: this sale will be the third of his tenure.
"It's business as usual. I've planned a 30th anniversary do in August," he said, adding: "I wouldn't be out the back painting the patio or fixing the roof in the toilets if I was leaving."
The news is sure to come as a relief for members of the Kingston and Leatherhead CAMRA group, who have voted The Willoughby as their pub of the year five times.
Beyond its anniversary celebrations, the pub's staff are gearing up for a busy few weeks as the Euros football championship, starting 14 June, edge closer.
"It's a great place to watch the England matches," says barmaid Ellie Stocker.
The Willoughby Arms' listing can be found on Rightmove here or Savills' website here. The pub's website is available here.
