Hampton Wick Surgery has seen its 'Sleep Out' initiative raise a remarkable £725 for housing and homelessness charity, Shelter.

Setting up camp at the back of the surgery last Friday (February 24) on a bitterly-cold evening, 11 clinical and non-clinical members took part in the sleep out from 8pm - 8am.

Despite heavy rain on the morning of the cause, spirits remained high as the team began to set up tents and a gazebo and powered through the night as colleagues visited throughout to offer moral support.

The surgery has run annual charity events for the last five years including sponsored walks for Shooting Stars Hospice and Guide Dog Charities, competing in the Pretty Muddy 5k for Cancer Research and regularly contributing to food banks during the festive period.

Commenting on the decision to support Shelter this year, Shannel Adams, Assistant Practice Manager at Hampton Wick Surgery said: "I recently took part in a homeless project with Spear that let homeless people be treated to general health care at a drop in centre for blood pressure, dressings, smears, you name it. It really touched me so when I decided on a charity this year homeless was one that stood out for me."

The £725 raised by Hampton Wick Surgery will be donated directly to Shelter to help support the variety of services the national charity offers from legal, local, online and over the phone support.
