Ham Gate in Richmond Park was closed by Richmond Police following an incident in the early hours of Saturday 5 August.

The road is closed and all vehicles will need to use Kingston Gate or Richmond Gate for access.

Royal Park Police said the incident "occurred in the early hours of this morning when the park gates were closed to vehicles. There is an ongoing police investigation" by Richmond Police.

Ham Gate will be closed until further notice.

Cyclists and pedestrians can still use the gate, but will need to stick to the pavement not the road.

There is much speculation on social media over the accident, exacerbating previous clashes between motorists and cyclists though it is not clear if this incident involved a cycle at this point.

Richmond Park Media Team said: "We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and will open the gate as soon as it is safe to do so."
