Kingston Thai restaurant chain launches new menu with 16 additional dishes
By Max Simons-Dukes 3rd Aug 2026
From today (Monday, 3 August) 16 new dishes arrive across all of Thai restaurant chain Giggling Squid's 52 restaurants, including in Kingston with a founder's promise: portions will never quietly shrink.
From one little Brighton restaurant in 2002 to 52 restaurants across the UK, Giggling Squid's new menu offers 16 brand-new dishes, served on a new photo-led menu, alongside a public commitment that portions will always stay generous.
With 80% of UK adults now concerned about shrinkflation and smaller portions appearing across supermarket shelves and restaurant tables alike, Giggling Squid is taking the opposite path.
Generosity is written into the chain's philosophy through the Thai principle of Nam Jai: generosity from the heart, the unprompted kindness in how every guest is welcomed and looked after.
The ambition, since 2002, has stayed the same: to be the country's favourite Thai.
"In Thailand, generosity is how you welcome people to your table, and it's how we've looked after our guests since our first little restaurant in Brighton," said Pranee Laurillard, who founded Giggling Squid with her husband Andy.
She added: "So while portions quietly shrink across high streets and supermarket shelves, ours won't. Our portions are as generous as they were when we opened in 2002, and that's how they'll stay.
"This new menu is the biggest change we've ever made, with sixteen new dishes to discover alongside the favourites people already love, all served with the warm welcome and beautiful spaces Giggling Squid is known for.
"Our hope, as ever, is simply to be the highlight of people's week."
Leading the 16 new dishes is Khao Mok Moo, a Thai take on biryani: a folded lotus leaf parcel of fragrant wok-fried rice and chilli pork, rarely seen in Britain.
Alongside it come Yellow Noodle Tamarind Duck, beautifully tender with a gentle tamarind tang, and the showstopping Whole Sea Bass Green Curry, a whole fish, descaled and filleted fresh that day, in Britain's best loved Thai flavour.
And to finish, homemade Thai Apple Pie Spring Rolls, a Thai twist on a British classic.
All are presented in a new photo-led format, inspired by the way food is ordered in Thailand: you see the dish, then you choose it. Every photograph shows the dish as it is served.
Laurillard said: "The dish I would most love people to try is the Khao Mok Moo.
"Most people here have never come across it. I think it could be the next big thing."
Younger guests are looked after too with a refreshed Kids Thai Tapas Set, now dealt out with the group's own collectable Thai character cards to play, swap, and collect.
There is also a new Big Squids menu, designed for older kids and teens who have outgrown the kids menu.
