Kingston residents have been out enjoying the sun this week as temperatures in London continue to soar.

Hot weather hit the UK over the bank holiday, with highs of 23°C recorded and a 'mini-heatwave' predicted for South London.

But the mercury continued to rise and there were peaks of 27°C in Kingston today (Wednesday 2 June) which has now been recorded as the hottest day of the year so far.

People in Kingston made the most of the sunny weather, flocking to Canbury Gardens for a relax and Kingston riverside for a trip out on the Thames.

Some shoppers braved the blazing pavements of the high street while others sought solace in the historic marketplace with its many well-placed awnings.

The Met Office forecasts that this balmy weather will continue for at least the next seven days, though temperatures will not be quite as high as they were today.
