Dicky Birds Day Nursery on Claremont Road, Surbiton keeps their ‘Good’ Ofsted Rating

Dicky Birds Day Nursery & Preschool on Claremont Road in Surbiton has achieved a 'Good' Ofsted rating for their second year in a row.

On 29 June the nursery was rated 'Good' across all areas of their Ofsted inspection, including Quality of Education, Behaviours & Attitudes, Personal Development, and Leadership & Management.

Dicky Birds, Claremont Road, part of Grandir UK, is located in a renovated barn in Surbiton and is known as a nursery where children are happy and confident, staff are caring and nurturing, and new children settle quickly.

Anna Maia, Nursery Manager, commented: "I'm thrilled to have maintained our 'Good' Ofsted rating. My team work really hard to provide the nursery children and their families with the best start in life."

According to the inspection report the nursery puts an emphasis on the children's physical wellbeing. The older children enjoy weekly forest school sessions, and all children take part in sports sessions and daily walks in the local community.

The inspector commented on how skilled staff are at providing teaching that "builds on what children already know and can do". They provide activities that follow the children's interests and incorporate what they need to learn next.

The nursery team have been noted as having a very good relationship with the parents, and parents highly praise the nursery: "A wealth of information is shared by the staff team about children's care and learning".

The report discusses how the staff keep parents up to date with their children's progress by sharing their learning online and holding regular parent evenings to discuss this in person, such as tea mornings and parent meetings.

The inspector stated that the manager carries out regular peer observations and staff supervision sessions, and provides staff with coaching to help them improve on their practice and personal effectiveness.

The report comments that "staff use their recent training to effectively build on the children's learning to further provide better outcomes for them."
