A cyclist was rushed to hospital this morning after being involved in an accident on Kings Road next to Richmond Park.

Police were in attendance to gather further details on the incident.

Kingston is notoriously one of the more sustainable boroughs when it comes to modes of transport, and indeed one of the safest.

Kingston upon Thames (3%) fell short to only Richmond upon Thames (5%) and Hounslow (4%) as the borough with the highest cycle activity in Greater London in 2021.

Data from TFL Travel for their 2021 scorecard, also ranked Kingston eighth lowest out of the 19 Greater London boroughs for the annual number of cyclists who fall victim to serious or fatal casualties.

In September 2019, a report by Kingston Council revealed that Kings Road would not be included in an assessment for its Healthy Streets project, which aimed to improve cycling in north Kingston, as it was subject to "on-going investigations".

The vocal nature of the Kingston community has been key in pushing for more accessible bike routes for cyclists in the past, and pressure is now mounting on the council to draw their attention to Kings Road.
