Work to remove a crane opposite the Rotunda on Clarence Street has been taking place since yesterday (Wednesday, 2 July).

Since it started yesterday morning, the work has been causing slow traffic jams in and around the town centre.

Pedestrian footpaths have also been closed, including the footpath leading to Kingston Station opposite PRYZM nightclub.

In a Facebook post, posted on Wednesday, Kingston Council asked residents to plan their journeys ahead to prepare for any time lost due to the traffic.

Local residents have also taken to social media to express their annoyance towards the situation, with one saying: "This morning was a joke. Traffic into Kingston was backed up all the way to Tolworth."

Another said: "The whole area would be at the standstill. It took me 1 hour 40 min to get from New Malden to Kingston yesterday. All those LTN's and other road use reductions are not helping with traffic maintenance. Remember: roads are blood vessels."

A third resident expressed their concern for anyone needing urgent medical care who might be slowed down by the traffic.

Kingston Council says that it expects the work to finish this evening (Thursday, 3 July).
