Rail and tube services operating through the area will be disrupted on July 26 and 28 as staff launch new strikes over enforced changes to working practices and pensions.

Aslef has announced industrial action for those two days on London Underground, which will coincide with strikes by members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union that will hit mainline rail services.

Rail services across south west London are likely to be hit by the action by RMT members, which will take place from July 23 until July 28 with some form of strike or walkout every day except for Monday, July 24.

Aslef's organiser for London Underground, Finn Brennan, said: "We take action only when needed."

The action involves disputes over the way disciplinary procedures are handled as well as long term sickness rules.

Mr Brennan said: "Management also want to force through their plans for what they call 'trains modernisation'.

"Their aim is an entirely flexible workforce with all existing agreements replaced - allowing them to cut hundreds more jobs and forcing those of us who remain to work harder for longer.

"To protect our pensions, working conditions, and agreements, our members are ready to act."

RMT members will take action from July 23 until July 28 with some form of strike or walkout every day except for Monday July 24 in a similar dispute.
