Coombe Boys' School is inviting parents and local residents to a public exhibition where regeneration plans for the Kingston upon Thames state school will be revealed.
Based in New Malden, Coombe Boys is a non-selective state secondary comprising boys from Years 7 - 11 and a joint sixth form for Year 12 and 13 students.
As part of the UK government's 10 year school rebuilding programme, the Department for Education (DfE) has selected contractor Bowner + Kirkland (B+K) for Coombe Boys' regeneration plans.
Funding has been secured due to the ageing layout and building of the school as well as its energy inefficiency. It is hoped the regeneration of Coombe Boys' will better accommodate pupils and staff, reduce overall costs, improve noise and air quality and increase useable external space.
David Smith, Coombe Boys' School Headteacher, said: "Coombe Boys' is a popular and successful school whose students and staff deserve the very best facilities. Following an extensive design process with the DfE and specialists on the design team we are delighted to be able to share with you our proposals for the future of our school.
"The regeneration plans will make Coombe Boys' a more sustainable and efficient school where we are better able to provide a challenging, inspirational and transformational experience but also one where our students feel supported, confident and happy."
The public exhibition for parents and residents will be hosted on Thursday 21 February between 5.30pm - 8.30pm at the school to allow for questions and feedback.
For those unable to attend, feedback forms on the regeneration plans will be made available on the school website along with further details once the event has taken place.
Coombe Boys's has said it plans to review all feedback before subitting a planning application to Kingston Council.
The timeframes and costs associated with the project will be revealed during the February exhibition.
Rian Tait, Design Manager at B+K added: "The transformation of Coombe Boys' School will; meet the latest standards of sustainable building regulations, carefully consider neighbouring homes, maintain the majority of mature trees and be of a high quality architectural design that reflects Kingston Council's ambitions for their community."
