A community of runners, rollers and strollers came together over the weekend to raise over £20,000 at the annual 10K Steps for Change Children's Challenge 2026.

The inclusive event saw participants follow a scenic route along the River Thames, from Kingston Bridge to Hampton Court Palace and back.

Organised to support Able Child, a charity dedicated to ensuring no child with a disability is left behind, the 2026 challenge marked the largest and most successful iteration of the event to date.

The day kicked off with breakfast treats provided by independent coffee shop Local Hero - giving participants the energy for a bubble-filled dance warm-up before they set off along the river.

The event was designed to be fully accessible, welcoming children and adults of all abilities to complete the course by powerwalking, pushing buggies, running, or rolling across the finish line to collect their eco-medals.

"Seeing an incredible community of babies, toddlers, school children, teenagers and adults come together was the ultimate reminder of what we can achieve when we move as one," said Able Child CEO Lauren Watters.

"Every single step taken and wheel turned helps us expand our mission to build a more inclusive world for children with disabilities."

The record-breaking fundraising total was made possible by the dedication of participants, families, and a team of local volunteers.

The event also received significant backing from corporate and philanthropic sponsors, including The Handspark Charitable Trust, Horrocks & Boyd, Local Hero Kingston, and Jacob Waddington Visuals, alongside several anonymous supporters.

Adding local star power to the day, England squash sisters Freya and Evie Hennings from Surbiton Racket & Fitness Club led the participants along the route.

The sporting duo served as ambassadors for the event, inspiring the young fundraisers to follow their passions and work hard.
