Kingston International Film Festival 2024 itself will run from 21 to 23 June.

An outdoor cinema night in Canbury Gardens has been announced as a prelude to the third annual Kingston International Film Festival (KIFF) following its success last year.

To get the community into the festival spirit, the event will screen Chitty Chitty Bang Bang during the afternoon of Saturday 15 June and Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds later in the evening.

Organisers have said the screenings will be joined by a bar and hog roast.

KIFF itself will take place the following week, hosting 86 films from 21 to 23 June.

Among the headline features is Ozi: Voice of the Forest, a family-oriented animated feature produced by Leonardo DeCaprio that follows teenage orangutan Ozi on a journey across the rainforest to find her parents.

Directed by UK filmmaker Tim Harper, Ozi tackles major environmental issues like deforestation in what KIFF organisers describe as "a captivating tale of courage and hope".

Other major screenings include Last Call featuring local star Tom Holland, a compilation of rarely-seen footage of David Bowie's career in film and TV, and the yet-to-be released documentary The Session Man, telling the story of Nicky Hopkins: a gifted pianist who played on tracks with the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Who, the Kinks, and more.

New talent will also be celebrated during the festival, with up-and-coming filmmakers showcased on the big screen at Kingston's Odeon and Curzon cinemas, along with the Rose Theatre.

These will be accompanied by workshops run by top industry professionals.

Festival Director David Cunningham says this year's festival promises to be "the biggest and best yet, with 12 UK or world premieres in total".
