A boy from Twickenham will be completing a 12 day fundraising effort today with a trumpet solo outside Kingston Hospital.
Nelson Fraser, aged 8, who lives on Eel Pie Island, has been performing outside hospitals across the festive season to raise money for the children's charity Barnado's.
Nelson, who has been supported by sister Kaja, set himself the challenge of playing Christmas songs on his trumpet at 12 different hospitals over the 12 days of Christmas.
The repertoire includes Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, Jingle Bells, Good King Wenceslas, Deck the Halls, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, and O Come, All Ye Faithful.
"We were talking about Christmas and the children who were sick and we wanted to thank the NHS for all their work in the last year," he told ITV News.
During the lockdown community clapping to pay tribute to NHS workers Nelson participated by playing the trumpet on the balcony of the family home.
"I live on Eel Pie Island in Twickenham and have been playing the trumpet since I was four. I often play on my balcony to share my music with people passing by.
"People have called me The Boy On The Balcony, and sometimes they even join in and clap."
Mum, Kasia Oberc, who is a governor at Meadlands Primary School, in Ham, said the family has been amazed at the positive reaction to the effort, which has already raised around £2,400.
"We didn't expect it, we thought we'd be lucky to get £500 from friends and family so we are blown away by people's reactions it's been wonderful," she said.
"It's been wonderful it's been so nice.
"They've had sweets brought out by doctors and nurses and given some Panettone which is his absolute favourite!
"On Christmas Day we were at Watford General Hospital where the fire service were delivering presents and they had a sing-a-long with Nelson and there was lots of cheering and clapping.
"He started playing aged four-and-a-half when he could barely lift a trumpet!" Kasia added.
Nelson will be performing at Kingston Hospital at 11 o'clock today.
