A 15-year-old boy has been arrested for possession of offensive weapons in Kingston.

Plain clothed officers patrolling in the town spotted the teenager, a known dealer, and detained him.

The child, who cannot be named because of his age, confessed to having a large machete.

The large machete was taken off him immediately and he was arrested.

A further search found a second knife and 78 wraps of class A drugs in his underwear.

A Facebook post from Kingston Met police said: "It's great, great work getting all this off the streets, but sad that the suspect had been drawn into this life at such a young age.

"A comprehensive safeguarding approach will be essential for him going forward, which we hope helps."

The local safer neighbourhoods teams worked with Kingston's violence suppression and dogs team to target an area causing issue with residents for drug dealing.

It is reported the dealers "rat run" through alleys that cars find hard to reach. Officers patrolled the area in plain clothes to avoid detection.

The child was spotted by the police, quickly bolted.

On the chase, the police planned to cut him off with a stop put in place. This plan was successful and the boy was detained.

The investigation is live and ongoing.
