A care home in Kingston Vale has been buzzing with excitement after inviting a beekeeper to help them celebrate Don't Step on a Bee Day.

Care UK's Sherwood Grange, on Robin Hood Lane, invited Avis Marshall, a beekeeper from Kingston Beekeepers Association to the home to help residents learn more about creating a more sustainable and bee-friendly future.

Avis talked through the life of the insect and brought in samples of honey to show the residents and pupils how it is made. They also had the opportunity to see a real beehive and Avis's protective bee suit.

Allen Bowers, 78, said: "What an interesting event, and it was so exciting to see a real hive up close. I also enjoyed the local honey."

Malgo Wcislo, Home Manager at Sherwood Grange, said: "We were thrilled to see the residents learning together and so engaged in the bee workshop. It's great fun to have these events; we hope to apply what we've learned here and make our garden more bee friendly.

"There was a real buzz in the room as the residents got to see the beekeeping gear up close and share their joy.

"I'd like to extend a huge thank you to Avis from Kingston Beekeepers Association for coming and teaching us all about the importance of caring for bees in today's world. The residents and team all had a blast, and we look forward to learning about more animals in the future."

Sherwood Grange has been designed to encourage residents to live active and fulfilling lives while remaining as independent as possible in a safe environment.

The home provides full-time residential, dementia, respite, and end-of-life care. The state-of-the-art care home features a cinema, hair and beauty salon and café, and incorporates plenty of space for leisure activities and hobbies.

The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
