This weekend will see the launch of a new local historical celebration, Kingston Museum's Saxon Fayre.

Organised by the council-run Kingston Heritage Service, the free and family-friendly Fayre will showcase the daily lives of those living in the town from the year 410 until the Norman Conquest in 1066.

The day will fittingly take place around the Ancient Market Place, with various trades from the era on display for the public throughout Saturday 27 July.

These include a mobile farm, a working Saxon inspired forge, leather work, flax spinning, beekeeping, a falcon display, and an area to try on period outfits and get in the Fayre spirit.

Accompanying the stalls will be a number of performances, re-enactments, and demonstrations:

  • 11:00am – Fanfair with Will Summers
  • 11:30am – Skep demonstration of the 5th and 6th century
  • 12pm – Rose Youth Theatre performance
  • 2:30pm – Parade from Kingston Museum to the Ancient Market Place
  • 3:00pm – Living history performance with Haestingas Regia

The 27 stalls will be open from 11am to 5pm unless otherwise stated on the Kingston Heritage Service website here.
