Adrian Wooton to give talk on The Who and rock opera ‘Tommy’ at Kingston International Film Festival

Following the success of his presentation last year on David Bowie, Adrian Wootton, CEO of Film London, is returning to this year's Kingston International Film Festival (KIFF), and this year he turns his spotlight on The Who.
His talk, lavishly illustrated with clips and slides, marks the 50th anniversary of the release of Tommy, Ken Russell's outrageous and highly popular film musical adaptation of The Who's classic rock opera.
Wooton, all round film and music aficionado, will reveal the behind-the-scenes stories revealing the dramatic, sometimes chaotic making of Tommy and look back at the legendary rock band's other adventures on screen.

Tommy is the story of Tommy who, when just a boy, witnessed the murder of this father by his mother (Ann-Margret) and her lover (Oliver Reed).
As a result, the traumatised boy retreats into the shadows of his mind and becomes deaf, mute, and blind.
Growing into manhood, Tommy (Roger Daltrey) is subjected to several bizarre cure attempts by The Acid Queen (Tina Turner), The Preacher (Eric Clapton), and The Specialist (Jack Nicholson).
Tommy's only escape is through playing pinball and his devotion and skill grow as he faces The Pinball Wizard (Elton John) and attains a devoted cult following .
KIFF is running from 6 – 8 June.
The festival provides opportunities for audiences to meet with filmmakers at events such as Q&As, panels, workshops, and award ceremonies.
It showcases independent cinema, screening films audiences do not always get to see, as well as providing the first steps in launching filmmaker careers.
