Accidental house fire sends up to 80 firefighters to Worcester Park

Twelve fire engines and around 80 firefighters tackled an accidental fire on Wellington Avenue in Worcester Park on Friday afternoon, 25 August.

The cause of the fire is accidental and due to an electrical fault in a chest freezer stored in a garage at the rear of the house.

Part of the ground floor and half of the first floor of a semi-detached house was damaged by fire. The roof of the house was destroyed. Two garages were also destroyed by fire. Part of a neighbouring house was also damaged by fire. Eleven people left the properties before firefighters arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.

Two cylinders were removed and cooled to an ambient temperature as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.  

The Brigade's 999 Control Officers received 25 calls about the fire.

The Brigade was called at 5pm and the fire was brought was under control by 7:46pm.

Fire crews from Sutton, New Malden, Mitcham, Wimbledon, Wallington, Clapham fire stations were at the scene alongside firefighters from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service.
