Abandoned car in Tolworth causes chaos

An abandoned and wrecked VW Golf has been left on Kingston Road for at least three weeks.
It has crash damage at the front and nearside wing, and police tape is surrounding the scene.

The windscreen has been smashed in a couple of places.
Two wheels have been removed from the righthand side of the car, and it is resting on bricks.

The car has been left in the crossing area used by pedestrians and cyclists outside Lidl headquarters.
According to Transport for London, (TfL), the traffic signals were vandalised in January.
A ULEZ camera housing is discarded at the side of the road.
Temporary traffic signals have been set up and the pedestrian crossings have been barriered off.

"The temporary signals are not as efficient as permanent signals and so there are traffic queues," says a local resident.
TFL is in charge of removing the car because, as a "Red Route", Kingston Road is managed by it.
A local resident said: "This is causing long queues heading towards Tolworth from Ewell Road to Kingston Road."

A spokesperson for Kingston Cycling Campaign said: "The abandoned car should have been removed within days, but it's been left there, blocking the cycle track for weeks.
"And with the pedestrian crossings all closed off because of the vandalism, it's now much more risky crossing the road."
TFL have been contacted for more information.
