20 new homes in former Kingston warehouse site ‘finally built after years’
By Tilly O'Brien 23rd Apr 2026
20 new homes have been built on the site of a former warehouse in Kingston.
Plans to tear down the disused buildings on Taversham Place to build 20 new homes were first approved by Kingston Council in April 2018.
The warehouse was previously used by coffee supplier Fine Foods International, but it was vacant for more than a year.
The new building will be run by Richmond Housing Partnership.
In a post on Facebook, Norbiton Ward councillor, Cllr Olly Wehring said: "Finally, after *years* spent building them, the new homes at Taversham Place (on the junction of Bonner Hill and Cambridge Grove Rds) are starting to fill up.
"The building has been constructed - and will be run - by Richmond Housing Partnership, which is a housing association.
"Our new neighbours have been nominated by Kingston Council from its housing register."
"Welcome to Norbiton - we've been expecting you for ages!"
Local residents report that they were in a WhatsApp group in 2020 with the site manager to hear about construction updates. However, the last site update was in autumn 2024 wherein the site manager claimed that construction should be completed by January 2025.
Following the update silence, members of the group sought further updates from the developers, but were ignored.
Speaking to Nub News, Janet Johnston, who lives on Vincent Road close to the development, said: "We're really pleased to see people finally moving in, but it's been a long eight years getting here.
"At a time when affordable housing is so urgently needed, it's frustrating that a small 20-home scheme has taken this long to deliver. For those of us living nearby, it's also meant years of noise, disruption and uncertainty from what has felt like a semi-permanent building site."
