Well-paced visits to a collection of national parks showcase Costa Rica's natural spaces and biodiverse ecosystems. Bookend your time with stops in the national capital, San José, with its 19th-century architecture.

"Take to nearby Poás Volcano National Park for an introduction to some of Costa Rica's most dramatic landscapes and discover the history of Doka Coffee Estate.

A tour of San José follows ahead of a journey, through Braulio Carrillo National Park's woodland, to the Atlantic Coast. An immersive eco-lodge stay in Pachira Lodge, set in the heart of coastal Tortuguero, offers opportunities to engage with local communities and learn about the nation's conservation efforts with a visit to the Sea Turtle Conservancy Centre.

"Follow a wildlife-spotting cruise along Tortuguero National Park's backwaters with a drive to Sarapiqui.

"From here, uncover the farming techniques of one of Costa Rica's most unique crops, the Heart of Palm, and embrace the region's rainforest. A photo stop at the famous Puente de las Iguanas bridge completes your time in the country's northern regions.

"Spectacular Arenal follows, with a resort stay in a private reserve on the outskirts of its national park. Marvel at the Arenal Volcano with a walk through its calderas and unwind in its thermal hot springs.

"Discover the cultural significance of the cacao bean with a visit to a local chocolate plantation and a chocolate-making lesson.

"An assortment of pre-bookable optional excursions is available at your Arenal-based resort ahead of a journey west to Monteverde for its enchanting Cloud Forest Reserve.

"Explore Costa Rica's natural wonders from above with a walk through the mist-covered canopy via the region's hanging bridges. Then take in Carrara National Park, Central America's only transition forest, for further chances to spot some of its most elusive species and migratory birds.

"Conclude an unforgettable wildlife-spotting experience with a final pause on the Costa Rican Pacific Coast, exploring the country's smallest national park, Manuel Antonio. Lastly, relax with a beach stay in Manuel Antonio before heading back to San José for the return flight."
