BEHIND THE SCENES: with Sigma Sports in Hampton Wick
Founded by two best friends in 1992, premium cycling retailer Sigma Sports has gone from strength to strength, with its success coming down to the passionate individuals who sit behind the brand.
Steeped in cycling heritage, Sigma Sports has two cutting-edge stores, in Hampton Wick and in Oakham, alongside a huge online presence and is now a well-established hub for the cycling community.
More than just a bike shop, Sigma Sports offers state of the art workshops, bespoke bike fits and unparalleled servicing.
Thus, Teddington Nub News has done some investigating into what goes on behind the scenes at Sigma Sports.
Upon entering the Hampton Wick store, you might think that it is just another swanky bike shop, but with its four floors used for a variety of things including bike and cycling gear sales, bike repairs, and bike fitting, you will find that Sigma Sports really is more than just a bike shop.
The ground and first floors are the shop floors, and the second and third floors compromise of workshops and consultation rooms.
On the ground floor is where you'll find an array of swanky new bikes for sale and with the store's pristine interior, you may be shocked that the shop is home to outdoor transportation devices that are meant to get a little dirty.
As well as buying new bikes, you can also purchase parts for bikes, such as handles, and cycling gear.
You can also use the Feetbox device designed to measure foot size.
On the first floor, you will see another vast collection of cycling gear, including clothing and helmets, for sale as well as more bikes.
On the third floor is where the magic happens as here is where bike repairs and bike fits are made.
Consisting of a Bike Fit Room and a workshop, I was amazed at seeing the effort and work that goes into repairing and building bikes.
In the Bike Fit Room, there is a machine with two blue pads, which are used for taking impressions when moulding custom insoles.
And on the top floor is the consultation room and fitting room, which also used for sizing and is where bike handovers take place for customers once their bikes have been built for them.
Sigma Sports in Hampton Wick is open to cyclists of all ages and abilities and has even had some celebrity customers, including Harrison Ford.
