Man taken to hospital after fight on Surbiton Road

A man was taken to hospital with a head injury last night following reports of a fight on Surbiton's Victoria Road.

The male in his 30s was taken to a major trauma centre after being treated at the scene.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and remain in custody.

Victoria Road is currently closed between the junction with St Andrews Road and St Mark's Hill / St James' Road.

Detours are in operation for the buses 71, 465, K1, K3, K4 and N65.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called at 20:59hrs on Monday, 3 January to reports of a group of people fighting in Victoria Road, Surbiton.

"Officers attended along with London Ambulance Service and found a man aged in his 30s with a head injury. He was taken to a south London hospital. We await an update on his condition.

"A 28-year-old man and a 32-year-old man were arrested nearby on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. They remain in custody.

"Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.

"Anyone with information about what happened is asked to call police on 101 or tweet @MetCC quoting CAD 5686/03Jan. To remain anonymous contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance service said: "We were called at 9.02pm yesterday (3 January) to reports of a person injured on Victoria Road, Surbiton.

"We sent an ambulance crew and a medic in a car.

"A man was treated at the scene and taken to a major trauma centre."
