Kingston church used as pop-up covid vaccine centre

By Ellie Brown - Local Democracy Reporter 21st Dec 2021

A CHURCH in Kingston was transformed into a pop-up covid vaccine clinic today.

St Luke's Church on Burtons Road joined thousands of other temporary sites across the UK set up to give eligible adults their jabs, including the vital booster, ahead of Christmas.

A person who attended the clinic said that queues to get vaccinated were short - a contrast to the three hour long queues recorded at the Hawks Road Clinic earlier this week.

The pop-up clinic was moved to the nearby Church after originally being planned to take place at Kingston Mosque.

Since the beginning of 2021 and the NHS covid vaccination programme, various sites in Kingston have been repurposed as covid jab clinics including University buildings and the disused NHS clinic at Hawks Road.

In nearby Richmond upon Thames, Harlequins ground Twickenham Stoop has frequently been used as a walk-in vaccine centre.

Further dates have been added to walk-in vaccine clinics in Kingston next week.

Hawks Road Clinic will be offering Pfizer jabs to children aged between 12 and 15 on the following dates:

- Tuesday 21 December, 3.30pm to 6.30pm

- Friday 24 December, 3.30pm to 5pm Hawks Road Clinic will also be offering Pfizer first or second doses to anyone aged 16 or over and booster jabs to all eligible adults. The dates for these clinics are: - Monday 20 December 2021, 8.30am to 7pm

- Tuesday 21 and Friday 24 December, 8.30am to 3pm,

- Wednesday 22 December, 8.30am to 6.30pm

- Thursday 23 December, 8.30am to 6.30pm

The Churchill Medical Centre and Surbiton Health Centre are hosting walk-in vaccine clinics this weekend.

The Churchill clinic will be open on Saturday 18 December and the Surbiton clinic on Sunday 19, both from 9-4pm.

Both clinics will be offering Pfizer first or second doses to people aged 12 or over, plus booster jabs and 3rd doses to eligible adults.

In Kingston town centre, the Union Street Boots will be running a Moderna walk-in clinic for those aged 18 and over.

The Boots clinic will be open on Monday 20 December from 2.30 to 5pm, and offer first or second doses of the vaccine.

Pearl Chemist in Surbiton is also set to host a walk-in vaccination centre next week, offering first and second Pfizer or Moderna doses to the over-16s, along with boosters/3rd doses for eligible adults.

The Pearl clinic will be open from 9am to 5pm every day from Monday 20 to Thursday 23 December.
