Our client designs, develops, builds and supports advanced technological products and solutions for the UK defence sector, specifically for major Naval programmes and vessels. They are looking for a Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join their Hardware Engineering team. Principal Electrical Design Engineer The Principal Electrical Design Engineer will be a key member of the team, providing electrical design engineering expertise for maritime control and instrumentation systems, across the full project lifecycle from requirements and concept design through to validation and qualification. This will involve the selection, design, development and analysis of electrical systems and components to deliver Platform Management Systems (PMS) for a range of Defence programmes. The role will involve:

• • Acting as electrical design engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) or technical lead for Platform Management Systems (PMS).
  • Design and development of electrical panel/enclosure/cabinet design in accordance with customer requirements and first principles where required.
  • Creation, modification, maintenance and management of electrical designs for power and control systems.
  • Analysing and justifying electrical based designs and component selection
  • Reviewing electrical schematics in accordance with relevant standards and internal Computer Aided Design (CAD) processes.
  • Producing, modifying, maintaining and managing technical documents to support contractual deliverables (e.g. specifications, design documents, Bill of Materials (BOMs) etc.).
  • Resolving electrical issues during hardware design, development, manufacture, integration and qualification.
  • Providing electrical engineering expertise to derive, define, decompose and manage requirements.

To be considered for this role, applicants will need to be qualified to degree level in a related engineering subject (experienced Electrical Design Engineers without a degree will also be considered), with strong experience in an Electrical Design Engineering position (e.g. Hardware lead, Electrical lead or similar), with understanding and working knowledge of electrical related Defence Standards, including Lloyds Register and other Military Standards (e.g. Def Stan 59-411). You will also need the ability to work under pressure in a complex and rapidly changing environment.
