Brown Girl Magazine International Women's Day - Her Story

This International Women's Day join Brown Girl Mag and Hear Art Project for the screening of two powerful short documentaries on female migrant voices, one by Sejal Sehmi and the second by Cindy Sasha. Through the power of storytelling, their journeys, albeit different, run parallel in survival, empowerment and identity.

After both screenings take place, we want you to share your stories or poetry during an open mic session. By making space to share our narrative and have your voice heard we hope to celebrate our self-worth, identity and power.

The evening includes refreshments and bites.

Tickets are available here https://lu.ma/2nad6xvi

About the hosts

Cindy Sasha is a Srilankan-British visual producer and creative who has worked with award winning artists. Her work focuses on storytelling with a D.I.Y attitude. Cindy recently won The Impact awards at The British Short Film Awards in 2022.

Sejal Sehmi is an IT consultant by day and Brown Girl Magazine's U.K. editor, whose passion for writing stemmed from challenging society-defined rules created for women of her generation. To understand the legacy that creates her present and the stigma surrounding cultural expectations, she continues to document and break barriers both in India and in the UK. Sejal has spoken various times on BBC's Asian Network and BBC Radio London to discuss social issues impacting British South Asians today. She has also written for The Asian Today, The Independent and Hearst Group's Red Magazine.
