An exploration of menopause bridging women's health, science communication, and visual storytelling.
Dr Francesca Arrigoni-Halliday is an Associate Professor in Physiology and Pharmacology at Kingston University and an Illustrator. Combining these two practices, she has been able to test how visual methods, when used well, can sharpen scientific understanding, especially for students tackling complex biomedical ideas.
As both a scientist and artist, Francesca has embarked on an extended research project that explores menopause through the lens of cellular biology, historical symbolism, and personal experience. Undiminished: Rebalancing the female narrative of menopause explores this powerful and often misunderstood stage of life, bridging women's health, science communication, and visual storytelling.
The exhibition at Dorich House Museum will comprise of an illustrated manuscript, a chandelier, and stained-glass windows, each a distinct yet interconnected vehicle for inquiry. Together they explore menopause through material, metaphor, and visibility.
