The Moon Jar's Legacy: A Talk with Jinsoo Park

Book your ticket for a special evening of drinks and cultural discovery at Dorich House Museum as Korean ceramics expert Jinsoo Park unveils the timeless beauty and intriguing history of the Korean moon jar – a ceramic form celebrated for its serene, spherical elegance and enduring influence on modern artists.

The moon jar, taking its name from its resemblance to the full moon, is a traditional Korean ceramic form, instantly recognisable for its distinctive silhouette. Crafted by joining two hemispherical bowls together with the seam deliberately left visible, the moon jar embodies both imperfection and harmony. Mr. Park will delve into the development of the moon jar during the Joseon period (1392–1897) and explore how this tradition has been revived in contemporary practice, including the work of artists such as Han Do-hyun whose moon jars are on display at Dorich House Museum as part of our Icheon Ceramics exhibition.

Evening Programme

  • 6:30 pm – Arrive to a welcome glass of prosecco and enjoy exclusive after-hours access to our museum collections, including the current exhibition by master ceramicist Han Do-hyun.
  • 7:30 – 8:30 pm – Talk by Jinsoo Park in the first-floor modelling studio: a deep dive into the moon jar's legacy and its resonance in contemporary art.
  • 9:00pm – Evening concludes.
