Chelsea Football Club's Women's team has appointed a new Sporting Director.

Following the departure of long-time general manager Paul Green last month, the team has appointed Phil Radley as its new Sporting Director.

Radley had spent most of the past decade at Danish Super League club FC Nordsjælland, initially as legal counsel, then as Chief Operating Officer, and most recently, as its Director of Football.

He stepped down at the start of this season and had been taking a break from the game for the last six months. He starts in his new role at Chelsea this month.

In a post on LinkedIn, Radley said: "I am delighted to share that I am now embarking on a new, and incredibly exciting, journey - joining Chelsea FC Women as Sporting Director.

"I am looking forward to the challenge of how we build on the already brilliant club Chelsea FC Women is - both in terms of today, and what the club needs in the long term - and working with Sonia, the players and staff.

"I know the ambition the club has, the huge ambition Sonia and this squad has and the winning mentality Sonia sees in the squad - I absolutely share that and can't wait to get started on the road to greater success.

"I want to express my gratitude to all those that have supported and guided me in my career (there are too many to name individually, but please know how appreciative I am), and to those that have gone before me in Chelsea FC Women and Women's football as a whole - I take on the responsibility with the utmost seriousness, respect and determination to contribute positively to what comes next."
