Richard III at Rose Theatre

A Rose Original Production

What happens when a person who has been punched down upon all their life, finally punches back?

Bridgerton star Adjoa Andoh shifts the lens on Shakespeare's most iconic villain Richard III, questioning what we think we know of him, in this blistering new production.

With an original score inspired by traditional folk music from Yeofi Andoh, this rejuvenated staging sets kingdoms and castles amongst May Day parades and Morris dancing (from Bridgerton choreographer Jack Murphy) in a rural Cotswold setting.

Following her acclaimed production of Richard II at Shakespeare's Globe, Adjoa Andoh now follows the rise of Richard, Duke of Gloucester, in this powerhouse Rose Original Production full of songs, dancing and a dash of murder.

Tim Penn & The Second Line

Tim Penn has been playing at Ram Jam Records for years and made its Speakeasy Party what it is today. Step back in time to the Jazz bars of New Orleans with him and his band.

Cooking up a hot gumbo of New Orleans R&B, Tim Penn brings the sounds of the American Deep South to RJR with his band The Second Line.

Tim Penn is one of the most 'in demand' keyboard players on the roots, songwriter and blues scenes. Going back to the 1970s, he was a member of Twickenham legend Dorris Henderson's Eclection and also the Kevin Coyne band alongside Andy Summers (The Police) and Gordon Smith (Described by John Peel as 'The foremost white Blues guitarist in the world')

The band draws on the music of Fats Domino, Professor Longhair, Dr John, Allen Toussaint and then stirs it up with a pinch of Ray Charles, Tom Waits and Tim's own original compositions, a recipe that has led to a string of sold out shows in London over the last few years.

Kingston's Coronation Parade

Come along and join the fun for all the family at Kingston's Coronation parade to celebrate the crowning of His Majesty King Charles III and her Majesty The Queen Consort. Organised by Kingston Council, All Saints Church, Kingston Music Service and the Rose Theatre, the parade will gather in the Ancient Market Place, Kingston town centre, at 2.45pm on Sunday 7 May 2023.

Drawing upon the borough's association with previous coronations, the parade begins with a fanfare and a Town Crier who proclaims it is the year 925 and the crowning of King Athelstan in Kingston. From here a junk percussion band made up of the community takes the helm and leads the audience on a journey through the ages to the present day…

More details can be found here.
