Looking for something to do in the Kingston area this weekend? Here are our picks of the events and activities you won't want to miss:

SATURDAY to SUNDAY: Persuasion at the Rose Theatre

The latest show at Kingston's Rose Theatre is a reimagining of the beloved Jane Austen novel with Sasha Frost and Fred Fergus in the title roles.

"Featuring a soundtrack of Frank Ocean, Dua Lipa and Cardi B, Jane Austen's classic romantic comedy is riotously reimagined for the twenty-first century.

"Jeff James and James Yeatman's captivating adaptation, first seen at the Royal Exchange Theatre, retains the quick wit and scandal of Austen's novel but switches Regency ballrooms for neon lights to present this 19th-century romance as you've never seen it before."

Tickets cost from £15 and the play runs until 19 March.

FRIDAY: Cult figure: Kenneth Williams at the cornerHOUSE theatre

Surbiton's community arts centre hosts actor and impressionist, Colin Elmer, in a production telling the story of comedy legend Kenneth Williams - "one of the most unique and beloved figures in British comedy history."

"From show stealing performances on the radio in Hancock's Half Hour and Round the Horne and over twenty years of starring in the Carry On films to becoming the darling of the chat shows, Williams was a rare talent who could turn from broad slapstick to erudite wit in a split second.

"Celebrated actor and impressionist, Colin Elmer, who played Kenneth Williams in the UK tours of Round the Horne and Hancock's Half Hour, reprises his role in this new production, telling the great man's story in his own words, using anecdotes, writings and some of the material for which the comedy legend was so well-known."

Tickets cost £10 plus booking fee and the show runs from 7.30-9.30pm.

SATURDAY: What a load of collops! Talk by Julian McCarthy at Kingston Museum

A free talk and book signing to celebrate the launch of local author and tour guide Julian McCarthy's latest book about Kingston - What a Lot of Collops!

""What a Lot of Collops!" is the history behind Kingston's annual Shrovetide Football match, its subsequent banning and what happened thereafter.

"The story is not one of a sport, but of the working class, tradesmen, gentry, police and homeland security."

This event takes place from 2-3pm and is hosted at Kingston Museum.

SUNDAY: Freedom Jazz Dance at Ram Jam Records

"Tim Whitehead & Freedom Jazz Dance aim to stretch comfort zones, to compose, arrange, perform and improvise music that transcends imagined boundaries in a variety of collaborative formats, featuring Aaron Liddard & Tim Whitehead on sax, Alex Hutton on piano, Diedre Cartwright on guitar, Davide Mantovani on bass and Tristan Maillot on drums,.

"They increase opportunities for existing and new audience to interact with jazz music by making connections with their common consciousness of contemporary music"

Tickets are £12 plus a booking fee.
