The Royal Parks police is reminding visitors to take extra care during deer birthing season after young deer was hit and killed by a cyclist in Richmond Park last weekend.

The fallow deer fawn was knocked down on Broomfield Hill, which runs along the south-east edge of the park, on Saturday (12 June.)

The cyclist contacted the Royal Parks to report the incident.

The Royal Parks Police posted a statement to social media: "Wildlife Officers â¦@theroyalparksâ© have informed â¦@MPSRoyal_Parksâ© that a fallow deer fawn has been knocked over this morning and killed by a cyclist on Broomfield Hill. He then left the scene.

"Please can all #cyclists take extra care â¦@Richmondâ© Park during the deer birthing season."

They added: "We encourage park users to contact park staff ASAP so they can assist injured wildlife if possible."

During deer birthing season all visitors to Richmond Park are asked to be particularly vigilant by cycling and driving slowly, and keeping dogs on leads .

The Royal Parks has issued regular guidance to visitors throughout the season on keeping both visitors and deer safe during this period.
