The latest in a series of public events organised by Quakers in South West London will focus on the work of two Friends who have been involved in peace activities in some of the most troubled parts of the world.

The event will focus on two aspects of Quaker work: Alternatives to Violence and the Quaker United Nations Office.

To be held at Kingston Quaker Centre on September 28, the event will feature Tanya Williams and Helen Drewery in conversation.

Titled Working for Peace: Faith in Action the event will hear how Tanya and Helen have worked as Quakers to support peace initiatives in the UK and around the world.

Tanya is Clerk of Friends Peace Teams Europe, an organisation which shares knowledge of communities in conflict. She is a veteran of Quaker peace work with Calais refugees and with people in Israel/Palestine, and last July supported the Alternatives to Violence Programme in Armenia with Russians from the Caucasus region.

Helen was the senior manager of Quaker Peace and Social Witness, which runs peace projects, including work in East Africa and Israel/ Palestine, peace campaigning and peace education in Britain. She also served for 10 years on the governing body of the Quaker United Nations Office in Geneva.

The event is the latest in a series of public events staged by Quakers in South West London to highlight their faith and the work they do. A new website - www.quakersinswlondon.org - has been created to provide further detail.

Working for Peace: Faith in Action will be held from 7pm to 8.30pm on September 28 at Kingston Quaker Centre (doors open at 6.30pm). It is open to the public, with free entry and refreshments. Further details can be found at www.quakersinswlondon.org/calendar/
