Nine local runners who ran a 250-mile relay race from Land's End to Teddington to raise money for local charity, Crossroads Care Richmond and Kingston, returned home yesterday evening Sunday, 5 October).

The team, who set off on Friday (3 October) were welcomed back with a celebration party at the Builder's Arms pub in Teddington.

However, despite being expected to cross the finish line at 1pm on Sunday, the team did not return until 7pm due to Storm Amy delaying their journey – this meant they actually ended up running around 300 miles.

Nevertheless, from 3pm on Sunday, members of Crossroads Care, locals, the team's family, and the Mayor of Richmond, Cllr Penny Frost, all crowded into the pub, which was set up for the celebration party with balloons, cakes, and pizza, to celebrate the team's incredible achievement.

Moreover, the Builder's Arms manager, Barry Wilson, was selling raffle tickets at the event with the prize being two tickets to any Champions League match of the winner's choice apart from the final.

All raffle ticket proceeds were directly donated to Crossroads Care.

There were also speeches from the charity's CEO, Julie Da Costa, its Patron and former local MP, Vince Cable, and Cllr Penny Frost, as well as a video montage of the team's relay race journey.

Speaking about the team's achievement, Julie Da Costa told Teddington Nub News: "I am so profoundly grateful to the nine runners running 250 miles from Land's End to Teddington.

"They've faced many hardships along their journey, including a van stuck in mud and Storm Amy, so we are so grateful that they have taken on this challenge for Crossroads Care Richmond and Kingston which supports isolated and vulnerable carers."

The Mayor of Richmond, who has chosen Crossroads Care to be one of her charities for this year, added: "I think it's absolutely amazing what these runners are doing for Crossroads Care, and this shows how much loyalty there is for Crossroads Care that people are prepared to run 250 miles in the weather we've had.

"Thank you to the team for powering through."

Crossroads Care's Patron, Vince Cable, also thanked the runners, saying: "We are so grateful to the runners for taking on this epic effort and I think it reflects the effort of the charity.

"The venture they embarked upon is certainly not one I would be prepared to do, so we cannot thank the team enough."

By providing personalised high-quality home and community respite care and support, Crossroads gives carers a break from their often 24/7 caring roles, whether that is looking after babies and children with profound disabilities or loved-ones living with dementia, including young-onset dementia.

The team has already raised £7,600 for Crossroads Care, but you can still donate to its race here.
