Royal British Legion’s Surbiton branch celebrates VE Day with various events

The Royal British Legion's ( RBL) Surbiton branch has been celebrating Victory in Europe (VE) Day today (Thursday, 8 May) with various events.
Today marks 80 years since fighting against Nazi Germany in Europe came to an end.
To kick of the day of events, RBL's Surbiton branch members raised the flag at the branch's club in Surbiton, which currently has VEDay-themed knitted toppers, made by the group's Knitters and Stitchers, placed across the wall outside.
The group then attended a service at Surbiton Hill Methodist Church at 10am followed by a laying of poppy wreaths at the memorial on Ewell Road at 11am.
The wreath laying attracted various locals passing by and was attended by RBL Surbiton's Chair and Vice Chair as well as its president.
It was a lovely occasion, and the sun was shining down on all in attendance.
RBL Surbiton will also be having a Freedom Beacon Lighting at its club at 9.30pm tonight and all are welcome.

Moreover, the Surbiton branch is hosting an Open Day at the club this Saturday (10 May).
The open day will run from 12pm – 5pm on Saturday (10 May) and will have lots going on, including a visit from the MP for Kingston and Surbiton, Ed Davy and the police, old army memorabilia handouts, and a performance from the British Legion Band.
