RBKares launches third Warmer in Winter project
RBKares has just launched its third Warmer in Winter project which helps those struggling to keep warm.
Its volunteers are all very busy knitting and sewing.
The Warmer in Winter project includes creating a hand sewn bag with a hand knitted blanket, scarf, hat, bought TOG rated thermal gloves and socks, a torch, a hot water bottle, an insulated travel mug, cuppa soup, hot chocolate/tea/coffee sachets a gift and lots of useful leaflets.
The leaflets will be from Mind in Kingston, the Samaritans, council about money worries, and RBKares' Hot lunch/snack leaflet (where to get a free meal or snack on which day of the week) that it put together with Kingston Charitable Foundation.
These are handed out by RBKares' and by local charities and churches.
The 250 Warmer in Winter Bags will be packed on 24 November by the Kingston Liberal synagogue as part of the Mitzvah day activities.
RBKares takes around 6-7 carloads of different items to them in the morning, and it spends the day packing the bags for it.
An RBKares' spokesperson said: "It is a really great example of interfaith and community action."
As part of this project, RBKares held a crochet event at Alfriston Outreach Service on Berrylands Road in Kingston yesterday, 28 October.
For the event, Crochet at Granny Square awnt RBKares squares made by people all over the country, and the volunteers "enjoyed sorting them into groups to make blankets/scarves for its Warmer in Winter blankets.
Alfriston hosts RBKares for similar events every other Monday.
If you'd like to help RBKares with its project, follow the group on X, Instagram, and Facebook.
