Plans submitted to turn funeral parlour in Kingston into residential dwelling
An application has been submitted to convert the Frederick W Paine funeral parlour on 29 Coombe Road into a residential dwelling.
The application seeks "the conversion of the ground floor from commercial to residential use to provide one residential dwelling".
In the application cover letter, Ruth Dovey writes: "The application property comprises a three-storey detached building containing a commercial use (a funeral parlour) at ground floor level and a two-storey maisonette on the first and second floors.
"The building is located on the north side of Coombe Road (A238) opposite Norbiton Station.
It is adjacent to a semi-detached dwelling, 27 Coombe Road, to the west and three-storey semi-detached property to the east containing a restaurant/café at ground floor and residential uses on the first and second floors.
"To the north (rear), the site lies perpendicular to a detached dwellinghouse, 1 Wolverton Avenue, and its rear garden."
Dovey continues: "The ground floor of the building falls within Use Class E and has been so for at least two continuous years prior to the date of this application for prior approval.
"The planning history for the site indicates that the site has been in commercial use for many years.
"The officer report for application reference 11/12460/FUL approved on 23 August 2011 refers to the funeral parlour being in existence on the ground floor of the building at that time.
"Google streetview images also show that the ground floor has been in commercial use as a funeral parlour since at least 2009.
"Streetview images ranging from 2009 to 2024 all show the funeral parlour at ground floor level."
Kingston Council is yet to make a decision.
