A new salad bar, owned by Iraqi women, has opened in Kingston.

Yalla Salad, which is located at 15 Castle Street, opened last month and offers Mediterranean-style salads.

Best friends Aya and Dania met at their very first job and seven years later decided to start a business.

"Somewhere along the way, Yalla Salad was born," the owners said.

They added: "The idea actually came from something pretty simple: we wanted a good salad, and couldn't find one.

"And we kept thinking 'why not?'

"Why should eating healthier mean settling for something boring? Why couldn't there be a place where fresh ingredients, bold flavours, and proper portions all come in one bowl?

"THose questions slowly turned into an idea. And that idea became Yalla Salad."

Yalla Salad's signature bowls include Yalla Caesar, Green Vibe, Cali Salad, Fuel Up, and Power Up. But there is also an option to create your own salad bowl.

The salad bar also sells fresh juices.
