Morning trains from Kingston to London are set to be cut by 50%, a South Western Railway (SWR) consultation shows.
A document released today (17 August) shows the company intends to keep its current number of peak AM trains from Teddington via Kingston and Norbiton stations to the capital at current levels of 2 per hour.
This is a reduction in the service of 50% from pre-pandemic levels of 4 per hour.
No changes are planned to the Shepperton loop, which also serves Kingston station at peak morning times.
The company also intends to increase the number of trains on the Hampton Court to London line, which serves Surbiton, Thames Ditton and New Malden.
In its rationale for this, SWR wrote: "A small number of AM peak services that previously serviced Kingston will instead start from Surbiton.
"This will allow an increase in capacity and provide additional direct journeys in the AM peak from Surbiton to Wimbledon and Clapham Junction while maintaining frequency for intermediate stations.
"Norbiton, Kingston, Hampton Wick, Teddington are also served by London to Shepperton services."
These changes would come into force in 2022.
