More than 200 Kingston households have offered to host families fleeing war-torn Ukraine
Communities across Kingston have come together to help and support families fleeing the ongoing war in Ukraine.
So far Kingston have welcomed more than 250 people from the war-torn country including over 60 children.
Kingston Council has been coordinating the local response, working closely with partners including the NHS, local schools and voluntary and community groups to provide the connections and services needed to support those arriving.
Registered charity, Refugee Action Kingston, are one of the organisations working hands on to ensure those arriving within the borough are provided the care they need to integrate comfortable into their new community.
As part of their emergency response for new arrivals in Kingston, the charity has provided over 100 clothing and hygiene kits and provided 40 urgent cases with specialist legal support.
The charity is preparing to welcome new arrivals from Ukraine and are asking the people of Kingston to donate whatever they can to help to support their continued efforts.
Across the borough, more than 200 households have come forward to offer to hose Ukrainian families, underlining the united effort from the people of Kingston.
Leader of Kingston Council, Cllr Andreas Kirsch, said the response has epitomised the welcoming and inclusive nature of the borough.
He commented: "We are committed to working closely with our partners to ensure we play our part in providing families arriving from Ukraine with the support they need.
"I want to thank all those who have come forward to offer to host our Ukrainian friends for your remarkable generosity and kindness. You epitomise the very best of the wonderful community spirit across the borough."
