London's first dedicated pickleball facility could be built in Kingston if plans are signed off by the council.
An application to turn two warehouses at Fairfield Trade Park into a major sporting facility has been put forward to Kingston Council.
Plans show the development would have space for ten courts, as well as changing rooms, a reception and communal area.
The application for Villiers Road has been put forward jointly by the site owner Star UK PAS Urban II Propco Ltd and the prospective operator MCMXPBC Kingston Ltd.
The application states the latter is headed by Neil Rodford who has had a "remarkable career" at Fulham Football Club and talent agency YMU.
"Neil's passion for pickleball follows his rich background in entertainment and business, coupled with a network that includes Pickleball England and high net worth individuals," the application said.
"This collaboration brings both capital and expertise to the forefront, driving the growth and development of pickleball in the UK.
"This facility will be the first purpose-built venue for Pickleball in [the] London area."
The site currently sits between bases for Royal Mail and Howdens at the industrial park.
The application added: "The intention of MCMXPBC Kingston for the proposed change of use is to convert the two existing warehouse units into an indoor facility of purpose built pickleball courts.
"This would be the first such venue purpose built in London.
"In addition, the existing office space of the buildings will be utilised for ancillary space for the pickleball users including a breakout area in the first floor, changing facilities at ground level, reception and small retail space to provide the required equipment for the game and some additional storage area for training equipment."
