Kingston to celebrate Communities Month
By Tilly O'Brien 1st Jun 2026
June is Communities Month in Kingston, which the council says "allows us the chance to celebrate the people who help build community resilience and make the borough a fairer, safer, greener place to live".
To mark the month, Kingston Council will be sharing stories and hosting events that recognise volunteers, welcome refugees, support carers, encourage people to connect with their neighbours and celebrate everything that "makes our communities great".
Kingston Pride
June is Pride Month. Across the borough, Kingston is marking the occasion with a selection of events, activities and community celebrations, from a special LGBTQ+ film evening at the Rose Theatre on 6 June to the Pride in Kingston festival in the town centre from 26 – 28 June.
Find out what's on and discover local groups and resources on the council's Pride Month webpage.
National Volunteers Week (1 - 7 June)
The council will be recognising the outstanding contributions of volunteers across the borough at its third Kingston Celebrating Communities Awards on 29 June.
If you know an individual or group of people who have gone above and beyond to support their community, tell the authority about them using the nomination form.
Carers Week (8 - 14 June)
Kingston Council will also be recognising both staff who are carers and the unpaid carers in our community, as well as highlighting where to get help and support, and helping people who may not identify as carers to recognise that they are.
Refugee Week (15 - 21 June)
Additionally Kingston Council will be hosting an event on 17 June to celebrate being given a Council of Sanctuary Award, which the authority says "acknowledges our long standing commitment to being a welcoming borough and our dedication in supporting those seeking sanctuary".
Talking to our communities
Finally, Kingston Council will also be out and about attending various community events including RBKares Wellbeing Day at CRE (5 June) and Berrylands Festival (5 July).
You can chat to council officers about your neighbourhood, local services, ideas for the area or anything you'd like to share. The authority says it will also be available to listen to feedback, answer any questions and discuss any issues or topics that matter to you.
Kingston Council said: "As a council, we are committed to working with partners and communities across the borough to make a positive difference and empower residents to live as happy and healthy lives as possible and ensure they are able to access the support they need."
You can visit Connected Kingston for local activities, services and support. You can also find a list of events and volunteering opportunities across the borough on the council's website.
