Kingston: Residents asked to comment on latest developments to borough's cycle network
Kingston Council is asking residents for their feedback regarding the latest developments to the borough's cycle network.
Specifically, the council is interested in hearing from residents on the installations completed so far on the Ewell Road and Kingston Road cycle routes.
Both cycle routes are the most recent to be installed, but are yet to be completed as funding from TFL has been frozen due to its current financial crisis.
As the council awaits the outcome of TFL' funding negotiations with parliament, it is keen to hear what residents think of the partly-completed scheme and how effective improvements can be made if funding can be found.
People from across the borough are able to leave their feedback on the council's engagement portal via a survey, which will be open from Friday 23 September to Sunday 23 October 2022.
The findings and recommendations will then be presented to the local neighbourhood committees covering the Ewell and Kingston Road routes.
The Portfolio Holder for Climate Action and Sustainable Travel, Cllr Ian Manders, said: "We're committed to making cycling lanes and other forms of active travel attractive, safe and easy for as many residents as possible, including for families and children.
"The latest schemes on Kingston Road and Ewell Road are yet to be completed - in part due to TFL's financial difficulties and the extended negotiations with central government over funding.
"We want to finish both these sections of the network, but while the initiative is on hold we are taking the opportunity to ask people what they think of them so far, and what simple but affective improvements could be made to the completed parts and parts yet to be finished."
Kingston Council last week announced its partnership with e-bike industry leaders HumanForest, which has brought 120 electric bikes to the borough's streets.
Each rider gets 10 minutes free each day, after which cycling on the bikes costs 17p per minute. Residents can find, hire and return a bike using the HumanForest app.
Commenting on the partnership with Kingston Council, Caroline Seton, Head of Growth and Co-Founder at HumanForest, said: "We are delighted to be expanding into Kingston and Sutton, bringing Human Forest's sustainable and affordable eBikes to even more of London's residents.
"Accessibility and inclusivity will be at the forefront of the partnership, working with local groups to encourage and support uptake from all areas of the community."
