A Kingston resident is set to embark on The Big Golf Race 2023 tomorrow in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.
The cancer research organisation runs the annual event to encourage golfers to grab their clubs, round up their mates, and take on the big race to raise money, which is used to fund research into the devastating disease which affects one in eight men in the UK every year.
Golfers can choose between the Half Marathon – 36 holes in a day – or the Marathon, consisting of 72 holes and the equivalent of 26 miles of walking in a single day.
Kingston's Mark Taylor will be taking on the remarkable challenge alongside teammates Jay Bhatt, Alan Hodge, John Taylor and Warren Colquitt that will see them take on 72 holes in 24 hours without buggies.
Mark and his team, made up of members from Tandridge Golf Club and SW1GS, will take to Tandridge's course at 5am tomorrow morning to kickstart the gruelling challenge, and have already raised an incredible £29,846 of their £30,000 target.
Speaking on the eve of the Big Golf Race, Mark told Nub News: "Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men in the UK. Thats thousands of dads, brothers, partners, grandads, mates, sons and uncles.
"But it does not have to be this way. I'm taking on The Big Golf Race to help raise money and awareness of prostate cancer to keep men in the game for longer. Your donation will help fund lifesaving research to find better tests to diagnose men sooner."
To donate to Mark's individual fundraiser currently at £14, 861, visit the link here.
