A record store in Kingston has expanded its venue into the site of a former café next door.

Banquet Records, which is located in 52 Eden Street expanded into the site of Spuds, located in no.56, yesterday (Thursday, 19 February).

In a post on Instagram, the store's owner, Jon Tolley said: "2025 was our busiest ever year and it became pretty obvious that we need more space and more capacity, so when these really big things come in, when we've got thousands of albums to ship out in two days' time, we can deal with it.

"So, this is our solution. Now I'm as big a fan as Spuds as anybody in Kingston. I think I've eaten a potato there every week for 20 years. But Spuds, the potato shop two doors down, is no more.

"Now we already have no.54 on Eden Street. This is where a lot of the goods in the processing, the pallets that we get weekly, happens.

"And we now have no.56 Eden Street to play with as well. The drive behind this is mostly about mail order. The rooms out the back allow us to double our capacity of getting stuff packed up and getting it out on time."

Tolley added that he as also acquired new storage space across the road the from the store to replace the current "soggy, damp basements which caused so much water damage recently".

He said: "This is a working progress, it's not there yet. But this will really help us around peak periods of Record Store Day and big album release shows to keep the stock somewhere safe before we get it mailed out or on sale to you."

To celebrate the expansion, Banquet Records held a "massive" pop up sale on Thursday, inviting locals to dig through its records, which are priced from £5 and sold as seen.

The pop-up will also be running today (Friday, 20 February) and tomorrow (Saturday, 21 February) from 12pm – 6pm.

In another post on Instagram, Tolley said that the pop-up sale "really is a everything must go" with "slightly water damaged records, slightly dinked records, some overstocked, some things we don't what they are."

\He added: "We really need to make space ahead of Record Store Day."
